Icecream Girl Painted

Anne Hober who is behind the designe of Icecream Girl,  wanted to have the sculpture painted. I had just bought some nice acrylics she could borrow, so one sunny afternoon she joined me in my workshop for fun and frustration with paint :D

I think she did exceptionally well for a first time marquette painter. She hit the mood just right. It just adds a lot to most sculptures when someone takes the time to apply a few layers of paint.

Evelyn Carter Mark II

I was happy with what I had achieved w my sculpture, but not really satisfied. I decided then to later take my existing sculpture and continue rendering on top of it when I would have the time.

I revisited the sculpture about two months ago. Apparently chavant clay hardens after a period of time, so I basically had to peel off a layer of clay on the model before I could apply new clay. it was actually a nice experience to just ruin your own work in a n effort to make it better. I can highly recommend it.

The new version of the sculpture has a better weight shift in her body and her clothing is better affected by gravity. Now I am satisfied with my work :)

Evelyn Carter 1st sculpt

Concept:

Now I had to do a sculpt of my design. We had 4 days to sculpt it in. When I was sculpting I was also hired to be assistant teacher for my classmates (Weird at first, but very fun) so I could basically only work at night. Hence I was never really happy w the finished result, but I was satisfied w what I had managed. I decided I would come back to it at a later date and improve it.

Evelyn Carter Concept

 

This is a rare occurrence as this sculpture is my own design. It was part of a school assignment we had to do about 18 months ago, where the job was to create a character and a backstory for the character. The only stipulation I had, was that she had to be female.

She became Evelyn Carter; A 65-year-old widow of a British colonial marine who was killed in the Zulu wars. I turned her into a tough 1920's explorer woman who would take no crap from anybody. Basically a prime candidate for the suffragette movement had she cared about politics. She would still adore her husband so I made her wear his service uniform and revolver (In case of angry lion) as well as her wedding band.

Concept by me-!

I took inspiration from Karen Blixen, a female Danish author who lived most of her life in Africa. I also found some nice photos from Humans of New York, when it was still an interesting web page from a character developer's point of view. I also looked into what was fashionable in the 1920's and added what I thought appropriate.

 

 

Freyja Finished

Hah finished. Had tons of liberty and fun w. the hair. Was a real pleasure getting out of my comfort zone w. this piece although there were a lot of cutting away of armature. overall no biggie.
Thanks Marie, hope to work together again on another of your designs :) Finished sculpt is about 20 cm tall.
